Eat Right to Stay Well
When the cold weather hits, it’s always
tempting to eat starchy or fatty foods like macaroni and cheese. But
remember, you and your family probably aren’t getting enough
exercise to burn high-calorie food. That’s why it’s important to
include lots of fruits and vegetables in your winter diet. Not only
will this help you maintain a healthy weight, it will give you the
vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy.

Make Your Winter Home a Safe Place
Be prepared for a home emergency this winter
by testing all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replacing all
batteries. And, never leave burning candles or fires in fireplaces
unattended – make sure fires and candles are out before you go to
sleep.

Put Yourself Out There
Just because it’s cold out, doesn’t mean you
have to stay in. Getting exercise in the winter is fun and easy.
Work out, ice skate, sled, or build a snowman or snow fort and build
family togetherness.
Be sure to be winter wise – check with your
doctor before you get moving, and remember always take frequent
breaks! It’s easy to get dehydrated in winter without noticing it –
so drink plenty of fluids.
